What are potting compounds?

Potting compounds are liquids that harden at different rates after application, depending on the temperature and the catalyst (hardening agent) used. There are one-component potting compounds (1C potting) and two-component potting compounds (2C potting). The main components of both types are the resin and a hardening agent. The potting compounds may also contain fillers and additives.

What distinguishes 1-component potting from 2-component potting: In one-component casting, the resin and hardener are already mixed together. With two-component casting, the resin and hardener still have to be mixed together.

Potting compounds are used, for example, to protect sensitive electronic components such as printed circuit boards. The direction of protection can vary and depends on the respective potting compound:

Loctite Stycast 2850 FT potting compound

There are various types of Loctite (Henkel) potting compounds, but the thermally conductive Loctite Stycast 2850 FT potting compound is the best-selling in our online store. This popular potting compound is made of epoxy resin, is a 2-component p otting compound and is recommended by the manufacturer for potting or encapsulating components where heat dissipation and thermal shock properties are required. It is also referred to as epoxy resin encapsulant.
