Disposable mop microfiber CELOS – ideally suited for cleanroom cleaning

Before purchasing mops for the cleanroom, the fundamental question arises as to whether a disposable mop solution or a reusable mop solution is more cost-effective. It is true that reusable mops can save costs in the long term, as they can be used several times and the reprocessing costs for the mop used are lower than buying a new one.

Nevertheless, disposable mops also have their advantages compared to reusable mops:

• No wear due to chemical and mechanical stress, as never used before
• Guaranteed not to be contaminated by residues on first use
• Simplified quality assurance

In addition, disposable mops do not always have to be disposed of immediately. This is because high-quality disposable mops can also be reprocessed by washing and reused in unclassified, i.e. non-critical areas. However, it is not possible to reprocess disposable mops if they have been used in contaminated areas and are contaminated with cytostatics or other critical substances.

The advantages of reusable mops, on the other hand, are as follows:

• more cost-effective in the long term
• sometimes higher-quality material that binds impurities better and absorbs and releases liquids better
• No separate logistics required for the delivery of disposable mops, instead delivery of the reprocessed mops by the cleanroom laundry together with the rest of the garments to be washed
• Lower disposal costs as less waste is produced (reusable mop covers can be used in up to 100 cleaning cycles)

These advantages of reusable mops are offset by the following disadvantages:

• Wear due to chemical and mechanical stress possible as a result of reprocessing (washing, sterilization) and contact with the contaminants and surfaces to be cleaned
• Particle release possible with increasing age
• Residues of impurities possible despite certified reprocessing
• Complex quality assurance through visual inspections of every reusable mop processed

Disposable mops should always be used in cleanrooms where hazardous substances are handled. Anyone who wants to be sure that no particles are released due to the wear and tear of a reusable mop should also use a disposable mop. The higher long-term costs of disposable mops are mitigated by the fact that quality control is easier with disposable mops than with reusable mops.

A distinction is made between normal disposable mops and “ready-to-use” disposable mops. The latter have been soaked in disinfectant or cleaning agent by the manufacturer so that they are completely ready for use.

The CELOS brand microfiber disposable mop is a normal disposable mop cover for cleaning cleanrooms that has not yet been soaked in disinfectant or cleaning agents by the manufacturer. It is recommended to use this disposable mop for cleanroom classes ISO 5-9 or GMP A/B and C-D.

The CELOS disposable microfiber mop weighs 50 g and is 40 cm wide and 12 cm deep. A major advantage of the CELOS microfiber disposable mop is that it is compatible with most mop systems. If the mop holders for the cleanroom have already been purchased, it should not be necessary to buy new mop holders in most cases.

The white pre-washed microfiber of the mop has integrated bristle strips that perform a brushing function. Its special structure enables increased cleaning efficiency, even with visible soiling. Under the microfiber surface is a polyester layer that absorbs the cleaning solution symmetrically over the entire mop surface. The polyester layer also ensures that the liquid is released evenly.

The area coverage of the disposable microfiber CELOS mop is 20 m². The mop is suitable for both cleaning and disinfecting floors in cleanrooms and laboratories.

The CELOS disposable mop is double-packed for cleanroom use and decontaminated and supplied in bags of five, with 20 bags in a box. One packaging unit therefore contains a total of 100 disposable mops. The cleanroom-compatible packaging enables a time-efficient and safe introduction into the cleanroom.

The CELOS brand disposable microfiber mop is available in a non-sterile and a sterile version, whereby sterility is achieved by gamma irradiation.
