However, as industrial production has to meet increasingly stringent quality management requirements, manufacturing under cleanroom conditions is now also required in industries such as optics, lasers, food, biotech, automotive, mechanical engineering and batteries, which explains the increase in cleanrooms in these sectors.
The cleanroom market size of 3.3 million square meters in the D-A-CH region can be explained on the one hand by the demand from the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry in Germany and Switzerland. On the other hand, demand in the electronics and microelectronics industry in Germany and Austria is also responsible for the large cleanroom market.
Among other things, food production under cleanroom conditions is experiencing growth in Germany. Until now, this type of production was mainly common in Austria and Switzerland.
Another growth driver for cleanrooms is the automotive industry, as customers are increasingly demanding that suppliers produce parts in cleanrooms in line with the supply chain principle. The mechanical engineering sector in Germany and Switzerland is also moving in this direction.
The cleanroom industry also owes its growth to the many start-ups that require cleanroom conditions for their complex products or the construction of large-scale projects such as large data centers for cloud and AI applications. In Germany in particular, the cleanroom market is also growing due to subsidies for the establishment of companies in the semiconductor industry or e-car production, for example.
Even cannabis is now being produced in cleanrooms, and some of these are large-scale projects. In Switzerland, for example, a production facility with a controlled clean room environment was launched two years ago, covering an area of 1100 square meters, where cannabis plants are grown and processed.
